Did you know . . .


. . . that in 1883 Charles Stillwell of Philadelphia, PA invented a machine that made a straight-sided pleated bag with a flat bottom that could stand by itself? Merchants began using the brown paper bag as an advertising tool by imprinting their name and logo in various colors upon it, a practise we still see today.
